ANIMAL BITES Bites from animals can introduce germs from the animal’s mouth into the wound. This can possible cause infection. There is a similar risk with human bites. The area of any bite should be thoroughly washed and if the skin has been broken, the victim should see a doctor immediately. Serious wounds should be treated at the emergency department of a hospital. Report dog bites to the police, as failure to keep a dog under proper control is a legal offense.
