BRUISE
A bruise forms after a blow breaks small blood vessels somewhere near the surface of your skin. As a result, small blood leaks out into the tissues which would appear as black and blue mark. There are times when tiny red dots or red plotches would also be present.
You may need a bandage if skin is broken. Otherwise, it is not necessary. To accelerate the healing process of your bruises, you may follow these simple steps:
- Elevate the affected area.
- You may apply ice or a cold pack several times a day for a day or 2.
- Take a rest making sure the bruised area is relaxed, if it's at all possible in your situation.
- You may use a pain reliever if pain is intolerable (acetaminophen). Otherwise, rest is enough.
Reasons to see your doctor- If bruises are unusually large or really painful and that they have developed due unknown reasons, YOU MUST SEE A DOCTOR.
- If you bruise easily and you have abnormal bleeding in other parts of your body, like nose or gums or if you observe blood in your eyes, stool or urine.
- Other reasons to see your doctor would be when you suddenly experience bruises, considering the fact that you have no history of bruising.
- What has been mentioned are signs and symptoms of an underlying serious problem like blood-clotting or blood-related disease. If bruising comes along with persistent pain or headache, this requires an immediate medical attention. See you doctor as soon as possible.
