FAINTING

If the blood supply to the brain is suddenly and temporarily reduced, a person may faint.  Fainting is usually the result of the victim being in a hot, stuffy atmosphere.

But an emotional stimulus, such as an unpleasant sight, a fright or bad news, can also cause fainting.  So can a drop in a blood sugar due to missed meals or dieting, or standing still for long period of time.

Sometimes there may be a more serious cause such as illness or injury, in which case a doctor should be consulted.

Someone who is standing still for a long time can reduce the risk of fainting by rocking gently from the heels to the balls of the feet.
